Environmental Impact Statements are conducted in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) incorporate assessment of ecological considerations (including assessment for protected species and other important or unique ecological resources) with other physical, historical and socioeconomic factors. Such assessments are required for projects receiving federal funding and/or projects undertaken on federally owned land. Similar requirements exist for state-funded projects in a number of states. The federal and state regulations require an assessment of environmental conditions at a site prior to initiation of a project, as well as an evaluation of potential impacts associated with the completion of the project. |
