The EI Group Assists with New Occupational Health & Safety Regulations in the United Arab Emirates
January 29, 2009
Research Triangle Park, NC - The EI Group, Inc. was recently selected to help the Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi develop new occupational health & safety regulations and standards for the Emirate. Abu Dhabi is the capital and second most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and has recently implemented regulations requiring both government and the private sectors to implement EHS management systems. Abu Dhabi’s ambitious plan is to be one of the first governments world-wide to develop a regulatory framework that truly integrates health, safety and environment into one regulatory framework. A team of The EI Group’s senior safety and health professionals have been onsite in Abu Dhabi, facilitating the government’s Consultation Workshop on EHSMS Mechanisms and Standards and drafting specific occupational health and safety standards as a part of the project.
The EI Group is an environmental, health and safety consulting firm with over 20 years of experience assisting entities with EHS program development, compliance assessments, and employee/management training. Greg Lathan, President of The EI Group, remarked, “This unique opportunity in the UAE is helping to fuel our growth in the international market. The EI Group has long been one of the premier health and safety consulting firms in the United States and we are excited about the opportunity to continue to expand our services in new and growing overseas markets.”
The comprehensive and proactive set of Codes of Practice developed by EI lays an important groundwork for a new approach to occupational safety & health and increased protections for the Emirate’s workers. Lindsay Cook, Senior Vice President of the EI Group said “This is an exciting new project – in most of our work we deal with a regulatory framework firmly in place. This is a special opportunity to develop a regulatory process from the beginning with a performance based, systems oriented approach”. The EI Group will continue to play a vital role in the implementation of these Codes; and in the development of supporting documents, information and infrastructure.
