Story #1
Concern
regarding the potential presence of asbestos in buildings constructed
prior to the mid-1970s, has driven school systems, lending institutions,
industries, and commercial and industrial real estate brokers to
require asbestos surveys as a component of most environmental site
assessments. Asbestos surveys have become a critical element in
many site assessments due to the importance for property owners
to meet requirements mandated by federal and state regulations and
to minimize liabilities associated with the presence of friable
asbestos.
EI
has served clients in virtually every arena in an effort to ensure
the safety of the indoor environment. Most notably, EI has built
a reputation for excellence through our work with public and private
school systems throughout the Carolinas. As an example, EI has maintained
a long working relationship with Cabarrus County Schools in North
Carolina, performing third party asbestos air monitoring during
renovation/demolition activities. As is common practice among EI
professionals, responded to emergency calls, performed visual inspection
and clearance along with comprehensive asbestos related project
management. As a result of the quality of this work, EI was carbon
copied on the following letter of recommendation sent to another
public school system in North Carolina:
"
On behalf of Cabarrus County Schools and in particular, our department,
I want to highly recommend EI, Inc. services to you. I have been
in the environmental and asbestos industry since 1985, so when I
took over as Health & Safety Manager two years ago, I know how
to screen companies. EI has not only made our list of top notch
consultants in the North Carolina area, but has repeatedly offered
the best cost effective methods. We have dealt mainly with the Charlotte
office, under the direction of Mr. David Brummitt, OHST, but on
occasion have had the privilege of working with personnel in the
Raleigh office as well. EI has been our consultant for underground
storage tank removal and closures, asbestos removal specification
designs, supervision and air monitoring. Each project has been completed
in a timely manner and within budget.
Sincerely,
Ward M. Smith
Health & Safety Manager"

Story #2
Lead-based
paint found in older building structures continues to be the major
source of lead poisoning in children. EI has extensive experience
in conducting lead-based paint (LBP) inspections, writing removal
specifications, and monitoring projects. EI has designed and implemented
abatement and monitoring plans for housing units, structures under
renovation, structural steel, and ships. Plans include specifications
regarding medical surveillance, training, personal protective equipment
(including respiratory protection), work practices, air monitoring
requirements, and waste disposal practices to ensure protection
of personnel and the environment from lead exposure or release.
Management plans provide for different methods of LBP removal along
with specific engineering and personal/environmental protection
requirements appropriate for the option selected. Options range
from the use of hand scraping techniques without complete containment
of the work area to abrasive blasting with complete containment.
EI
received the following letter of commendation from the City of Greenville,
North Carolina.
"This
letter is being sent to give my personal appreciation for EI, Inc.'s
willingness to meet the needs of our Community Development (CDBG)
Program. You have been a great help to us in the form of advising
us of needs and keeping up with current regulations. My thanks to
you for your concern about "doing things right," and consulting
with our program about how to handle particular projects.
I
would also like to especially thank EI for the work of Ms. Bethanie
Homer. She has done several inspections for us and has always called
to inform us of inspection dates and times. Above that, she has
a genuine desire to help those individuals involved in the process
and has called me on a few occasions very concerned about the safety
and well being of a homeowner. Beth deserves recognition for going
well "beyond the call of duty." It is refreshing to know
there are those who still remember the real purpose of our work.
It is the people and their safety that is our main concern.
Sincerely,
Richard A. Collins Jr.
Community Development Planner"
